At about noon today, lawyer-politician Wee Choo Keong held a press conference at the MDP (Malaysian Democratic Party) office in SS2 Petaling Jaya. Over 30 journalists and bloggers attended the event.

At the conference Wee made public two police reports lodged by VK Lingam’s 50-year old brother, Thirunama Karasu a/l Kandar Velluppillai.

The reports were made in March this year and the second one, dated 19 March 2007 in particular, allegedly reveals VK Lingam’s various corrupt practices involving the judiciary and others during 1995 and 1996. These include cash, cheques, gifts and mobile phones exchanging hands, among others.

Some of the persons named in the police report include the following:

Judges presently serving

  • Low Hop Bing (Court of Appeal)
  • Mokhtar Sidin (Court of Appeal)

Former judges

  • Eusoff Chin (former Lord President of the Supreme Court)
  • Lamin Yunus (former President of the Court of Appeal)
  • Dato KL Rekraj (former High Court judge)
  • Mohtar Abdullah (former Federal Court judge)
  • Satchi (former Industrial Court chairman)

Others

  • Rahim Noor (former IGP)
  • VK Lingam’s other lawyer brother V Sivapranjothi
  • Lawyers C Vijayakumar, Sithambaram and Kumarendran

When asked why Thirunama Karasu chose to come to him with the police reports and not other high-profile personalities, Wee replied that “it was a confidence issue and he (Thirunama) believes we at MDP will be able to help him do the right thing.”

On the timing for the press conference, which was hastily arranged yesterday, Wee had this to add, “In view of the Prime Minister’s sudden agreement for a Royal Commission to look into the problems affecting the judiciary on Friday, and, given the speed at which events are moving along … it would be opportune for the administration to also address the issues raised here today.”

Wee also raised the point that eight months had lapsed since the reports were made and until today there had been no action taken. “This sadly reflects the current state of affairs in the country and justice delayed is justice denied,” sighed Wee.

Glad that you have come up wth the breaking news. I bet you the BN press will try to distort or not publish it at all. Bolehland anything can happen. So let’s have fun and vote against BN.

  2. This report will further muddy the streams. However, why did it take so long for Karasu to make this report? There seems to be a conspiracy theory.

Nevertheless, it goes to show how the justice system had being tainted by those rich and powerful people and how corrupt our system had always being.

    – All the more reason we need a Royal Commission to do a thorough cleaning up job.

“Unsound mind”. What a big joke. Mr Karasu will be at ACA Hq Putrajaya at 11 am this morning. Please come and see for your self whether he is of unsound mind.

Well done, you have done a brilliant job. You are part of nation building so is “I am a Malaysian”. Malaysian should be proud of people like you. Who would spent time and money for nation building. You bloggers are great people.
